Sofia, Bulgaria Art ....

Last weekend, the citizens of Sofia, Bulgaria awoke to find a public monument to Red Army defaced by an unknown interventionist. The statues of Soviet soldiers who “liberated” Bulgaria from the Nazis in 1944 were painted as Superman, Joker, Ronald McDonald, Santa Claus, Captain America and other pop culture icons of capitalist Americana. Below it, a graffiti caption read: “In step with the times!” or “”abreast with the times!” depending on the translation. As you might guess this angered both Bulgarian and Russian officials who are actively searching for the artist some are calling the “Bulgarian Banksy”. The clean up process on the sculpture started on Tuesday morning even though 1,700 people rallied on Facebook against removing the artists’ work.

Nothing beats hanging out with our favourite artists in their element producing artwork. We were at Karousel in Grey Lynn where Ean Dog works part time and prints his art & t-shirt brand Dog Brothers. You don’t realise the skill these artists have until you spend time with them doing this kind of thing. We chatted with Ean while he printed his first commercially available print “True Loathing“, a mix of stencil and screen and a super short run of just 30 (Interview continues below print making medley shoot…)

Where has your creative career taken you so far?
So far too here. …Thanks endemic, and anyone who so far has bought a Dog brothers T-shirt… but the future is a very big space.

Can you pass on any advice for others pursuing a similar career?
The T-shirt and design business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There’s also a negative side! ! Keep it small one design at a time and most of all have fun.

Who are some of your favourite artists & designers?
This may be a long list sorry ahead of time…the late great Martin “FUCKIN” Emond, Broadmore, Dan Tippett and DLT, Otis Frizzel and Mark Weston, Trust Me also Banksy (especially the paris Hilton album rework) and anything he does that makes you think !, Obey, 3D, Vhils, Antony Micallef, Mode 2, Seen, Futura 2000, Jr, Connor Harrington, Zevs, Misery, Askew , TMD, Enu, Little Elliot and my mate Quink.

Describe your dream job?
Mmmm Fluffer on female porn sets ! (You asked).
What are you currently working on? Do you have any new and exciting projects coming up?
Slowly (ha ha) working on more limited edition prints (some may make it to T-shirts) the theme is New Zealand icons and music so watch this space.

Where did the name Dog Brothers come from?
We were looking around on you tube and found a fighting group called Dog brothers there main thing was about self defense but when you looked closer it was brother hood and about respecting your opponent so we thought the last bit was a bit of us, so part of our aim is to help promote other would be artist such as Dj’s or graphic, clothing labels etc, so on our web site we post other peoples work and links. ”Even cage fighters who beat the living shit out of each other, still hug the looser and respect there efforts” a bit like how life should be.

What do you like most about being an artist/designer/making prints?
The free time.

What else do you do?
I am currently employed part time at Karousel screen printers, printing textile i.e. T-shirts etc for bands like Fat Freddy’s , Tiki and the list goes on etc etc.

My girlfriend my major support unit (couldn’t do half of it with out her x)

The Nextmen

A little about ...
Unless you have fallen lifeless somewhere thru the cracks you’ve more than likely witnessed Cambridge come Londoners The Nextmen, also known as Brad Baloo and Dom Search, at one of their many sweaty styled-out club sets, festival-smashing performances or heard their incendiary mixtapes, some just days old and some many years since they were recorded, that are still filling the ears of the blissed out masses who just want to kick back or kick up with big boss tunes, not wipe the irony from their chins from the up-chuck of resoundingly vapid faux counter-culture buffoonery. All mouth poser twats with limited social agendas beware - The Nextmen are not the centre of cool for the next five minutes. Beloved the globe over by dedicated followers of music not dedicated followers of fashion? Yep. Loving of the good groove irrespective of genre but not of taste? Yep. The all day every day no-brainer block rocking choice? Natch.

This eclectic production duo continue to carve up shiny gems from London’s lovely low-end underbelly with albums, singles, mixes, remixes, podcasts, DJ sets and live shows, blending anything worth listening to from all electronic music styles. Making this connection between music they love be it dancehall, drum’n’bass, dubstep, reggae, roots, instrumental and actual hip hop, soul and soulful low-end boomp, funk & (UK) funky, indie, leftfield, ambient, pop and straight-up party jacking pleasers, is something Baloo and Search always strive to achieve, weaving their way on 4 turntables with mastery and abandon, all laced up with their own sought after mash-up edits, bootlegs and specials.

The Nextmen in long-form and for those unversed, here’s a quick champion-style summary (shouts to Bill Brewster for the insightful extractions):

Dom (real name: Dominic Betmead) and Brad (real name: Brad Ellis) joined forces when Brad blagged a remix for London Posse and realised he didn’t have any kit with which to do it. In stepped Dom with his Roland S10 and not much else. “The track was called Style,” chips in Dom, “But it put us on the map. Everybody loved it. Radio 1 got hold of it.”“It was 75 bpm and really pedestrian,” deadpans Brad. “Fucking terrible.” Terrible or not, London Posse’s Style had something about it, not least the MCing skills of the posse’s Rodney P, with whom The Nextmen have subsequently enjoyed a long working relationship. In 2000, The Nextmen released their debut album Amongst The Madness on the revered 75 Ark imprint. Originally intended to be a Mo’ Wax-style instrumentals album, their label began sending the beats out to rappers in the States and before they knew it, The Nextmen were hip hop producers, working with Public Enemy, Blackalicious, The Pharcyde and Morcheeba. Get Over It, 2003’s sophomore album for Scenario, confirmed their position as one of the UK’s brightest beatmakers. The changes in Nextmen direction over the years – if they could even be described as such – grew out of their DJ sets, as they found the space to integrate the outer reaches of their record collections. It was an organic change, but one that was driven by their outlook: “As a clubber, I want to go out and hear varied styles of music,” says Dom “I don’t want to hear one kind of music all night.” This shift in approach found an echo in the studio too, firstly with reggae compilation Blunted In The Backroom, which they completed for the label Antidote. This was a headlong plunge into the depths of the Trojan catalogue, but re-wired by the Nextmen for the now. It was so successful, Antidote commissioned their third studio album, This Was Supposed to be The Future which featured collaborations with Sway, Fat Freddy’s Drop vocalist Dallas, Zarif, Alice Russell, Dynamite MC, Chicago’s own Kidz In The Hall, Jamaican legends Niney The Observer and Demolition Man, and LSK from Faithless. Their fourth studio LP moved them to a major with ‘Join The Dots’ on Universal following on in 2009 and in typical Nextmen fashion the game was sonically upped to dizzying heights as ‘Join The Dots’ progressed like a paint by numbers prayer of affection through all the genres and styles loved by the pair and their fans alike. The album was born from their explosive and eclectic DJ sets, those being the focus of the duo's global critical acclaim over the last 12 years.

More studio records, a podcast series, a pop-up party tour and plenty more are to come in 2011, all set to mark a reflection and reaction to what The Nextmen have done and can do as DJs and fast forward follow ups to their back catalogue as producers. Get your ears open and ready.

Dennis Howard Marks (born 13 August 1945) is a Welsh author, former teacher and drug smuggler who achieved notoriety as an international cannabis smuggler through high-profile court cases, supposed connections with groups such as the CIA, the IRA, MI6, and the Mafia, and his eventual conviction at the hands of the American Drug Enforcement Administration. At the height of his drug career, he was said to have controlled 10% of the world's hashish trade.

He currently lives in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. He is also a fluent Welsh speaker.

So we are big lovers of the Filmore era of Prints and even to the modern day stuff like Obey and Derick Hess etc etc oh fuck it we will even admit to loving Banksy and his go do it get up style .... so we are trying in our own way to follow in such great legends foot steps to do our own little bit !

this is a bit of a leader as we are also working on our AP's at the mo on a limited edition paper print run of this design which is mixed media (spray can and print) limited to only 40 here in New Zealand and will be sold on our friends inter web shop bizz and also as a t-shirt for you not so interested ? or those that missed out ?

Chuck D joins the ever-growing list of emcees to collaborate with artists, as the Public Enemy front man launches his first-ever art collection titled "By the Time I Get to Arizona."
Debuting in March, so head to the link below and order yours now ?. The prints find Chuck D and collaborator Ravi Dosage envisioning what has been described as "a future Arizona border created in a sophisticated collage utilizing a cache of recognizable figures (created over the last 100 years) to show how our 'nation of immigrants' has been lost to legislation." The collection was inspired by Arizona's stringent immigration policies and takes its title from Public Enemy's 1991 song of the same name.

Chuck and Dosage will release the series of 300 prints on March 4, with over 30 figures, lyrics and messages hidden throughout the piece. Each print will also feature the rapper's handprint plastered on the print in paint and a placard of authenticity signed by Chuck D himself.

we finally got our shit together and hit up a few spots around Auckland City today, these will not be around for too long ..... Bad Auckland Council !
But as you can see these are all made by us and all done by HAND including posting them ....

They are only taped so with a bit of fine tuning with a craft knife = one free print !

Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix 2011 !

Hi so Dogbrothers and Deejay Dubhead decided to head along to the Auckland Domain yesterday at the annual Red Bull Trolley Derby.
We didnt get our arse into gear untill lunch time and arrived about 2pm to watch roughly 100 teams from around the country race at the Lower Domain Drive, this was transformed into a 700m winding race track designed to test the machines including a jump all be it small (but for some tooooo big) lots broke wheels here and crashed at the last corner, where we set up our camera for the day ! Carnage ! !
All trolleys were judged by a panel on three criteria: creativity of design, team showmanship and finishing times, also on if they took the jump also seemed to be an added factor also as the judges got more ....... drunk ? the scores did seem to vary some what, all adding to a good day !
The Judges on the day were Tammy Davis from Outrageous Fortune, TV presenter Amber Peebles, New Zealand drift champion Mike Whiddett, artist Otis Frizzell and Steve Dunstan who owns Huffer.
Some of the themed trolleys were shaped like the iconic buzzy bee made and driven by our friends Team Buzz Kill (the reason we went), and we think should have won with there 2 man racing side car approach and the fact they were dressed in bear costumes to boot ! !, roast chicken, Mr Potato Head, and a couple of portaloos on there sides but once you see one and watched jack ass its going to take something special to see a portaloo in a exciting light ! !

and lastly a big thanks to all the teams who entertained us and have spent the last two months creating and designing trolleys for 50 seconds of fame and to race for the $10,000 prize at the Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix.
If ya didnt go it was a load of fun and already the Dogbrothers have sat around and discussed making a trolley so ..........

well we are back on the net yeah......boyz....
so we have 5 new designs in the pipe line including a colab with local Dj and all round nice guy Dub.

So he became active as a DJ in 1983 and has played reggae, funk and hip-hop at all manner of events around the country since then, including playing as a support act for touring international artists such as; Sly & Robbie, Burning Spear, Toots & The Maytals, The Wailers, Luciano, Mikey General, Michael Rose, Collie Buddz, Shaggy, Stranger Cole, Sean Kingston, Ziggy Marley, Mary J Blige, Lauryn Hill, Steel Pulse, Jimmy Cliff, Eddy Grant, Maxi Priest, Inner Circle, Julian Marley, Renegade Soundwave, Mad Professor, African Head Charge, Ben Harper, Rockers Hi-Fi, Dry & Heavy, Arrested Development, UB40, The New Beat, Ty, Flying Lotus and Soul Jazz Sound System. He hosts a weekly specialist radio show on Auckland’s 95bFM which has broadcast continuously since 1990. The Rhythm Selection airs every Monday night from 9.00 - 11.00PM and can also be heard worldwide as a live audio stream see the link below ! !. From 2000 to 2004 he was bFM’s Programme Director and during this time was responsible for securing airplay for countless local artists, particularly those from New Zealand's reggae and hip-hop underground. Since 2000 he has been an executive producer for eight New Zealand music compilations, including “Dub Combinations Chapter 3”, which won the 2003 bNet New Zealand Music Award for 'Best Compilation'. He has produced his own music under the name of The Sound Foundation, which has been released here and in Australia and Europe on the Deepgrooves, Kog Transmissions and Stereo Deluxe labels. His writing has been previously published in magazines such as Back 2 Basics, Planet, The Fix and Debate. He currently works for Auckland Student Movement at AUT, holds a DJ residency at Shadows Tavern and is writing a book about the history of Reggae in New Zealand. so no mean feat ? ?

Well we are not too good at the whole blog thing as you can prob tell
(time waits for no man on the net)
... some people seem to do this everyday and others 5 times a day ...
but US. Well we do it when we have something decent to say or something decent to tell you about ..... remember Jay Bullet Proof ? or the Streets mix tape ? oh and we are the people who brought you ......The Blood Diamond mix tape so here is a bit more but Scorzayzee's mean as version .... so enjoy !

Scorzayzee (Scor-zay-zee) is a Nottingham-based rapper, well known for his connection with the now defunct Notts supergroup Out Da Ville alongside artists such as C-mone, Lee Ramsay and Karizma.

Known for his multi-syllabic style and political view points he caused controversy in 2003 with his P-Brothers produced cut 'Great Britain' - a scathing response to the Iraqi war and hypocrisy amongst the country's elite. Many believe this to be his masterpiece. This was an anti-establishment rant against the Queen, Tony Blair, the B.N.P., Freemasons and a few other people he threw into the equation. It gained him plenty of attention, getting picked up by Radio 1, 1xtra and even more hysterically the Daily Telegraph.

The lyrics to `Great Britain' seem particularly poignant in this age of war and terror. It was a rally cry, a call to arms from a voice of dissatisfied British youth. The song ultimately questions how a country's system of government can act so directly in opposition to the wishes of so may of those it represents.

It was something of a surprise therefore, when following his greatest success yet, Scorzayzee decided to call it a day and retire from rapping after this song. Rumours about his conversion to Islam, knocks on the door from federal officers and plenty more hype did nothing to calm the storm.
The track gained a surprise amount of love from major radio stations and the Hip-Hop fraternity and even got played on Radio 1,in 2004 it was rumoured Scorzayzee had retired from making music due to converting to islam, although there were also rumours he had received threats from certain right wing pressure groups such as the B.N.P.

However, in a recent interview Scorzayzee had this to say:

"If I hear a beat and I get an idea again I'll write another tune and put it out. But at the moment I've just got nothing that I want to say. I don't want to talk for the sake of it. I don't want to just make tunes for the sake of it, I want to do something special. All I know is that if I do anything else, it's got to be worth coming back from retirement to say it."
As of June 2007, rumours are rife over a Scorzayzee comeback, with the appearance of a myspace page.Scorzayzee also recently made his acting debut, a career he is said to be interested in following.In December 2009 the site www.YHBNews.com reported Scorzayzee had released his mixtape and new single 'Luv me' was receiving airplay.

so we here at Dogbrothers have always been fans of pop art and collecting posters, we have quite a solid collection from here in Aotearoa. Artist like Martin F Emond and Misery etc, and also from the USA from artist such as Coop, Derek Hess and Obey. So while printing our stock today at the workshop we thought lets give it a go ! and in the plucky Aotearoa can do anything, number 8 fencing wire mentality....... WE DID IT !
so look out around Auckland City in the next few months and see if you can spot our handy work ? and feel free in the spirit of the old Fillmore days. To pull them of the walls and take them home to share and enjoy ! !

So it has been tooooo long coming, but some say the best is something or other sorry we not quite sure of the quote ha ha. but we got up early today and finally put all the right size shapes in the right hole and walla we have an awesome shop behind us so things are surely on the up ?

A little bit about Clothesline:

New Zealand’s designer t-shirt store. Launched in October 2007 as the first completely NZ designed t-shirt gallery, featuring a huge range of mens, womens and childrens t-shirts, with designs from classic kiwiana through to cutting edge streetwear.

After 3 years of organising the ‘if 6 was 9’ t.shirt exhibition at Disrupt Gallery in Auckland, Josh King decided it was the right time to launch a permanent space in celebration of the huge wealth of local talent, and to create a fantastic and easy t-shirt buying experience both in-store and online.

and found out that on June 13, 2009, the Banksy UK Summer show opened at Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, featuring more than 100 works of art, including animatronics and installations. It is Banksy's largest exhibition yet, featuring 78 new works and over 8,500 visitors to the show on the first weekend.
But if your not planning on a trip over there take a look below.

Banksy's stencils feature striking and humorous images occasionally combined with slogans. The message is usually anti-war, anti-capitalist or anti-establishment. Subjects include rats, monkeys, policemen, soldiers, children, and the elderly.

Wish we could get over there, but hope and sure it will not be too long till it's all over youtube (fingers crossed).

For some fifty years, Stickers are defined as being a piece of paper or other material of which one side has a substance meant to help it cling to a surface. Wow, that is a pretty confusing definition of a pretty simply concept. The sticker, may have been discovered by ancient Egyptians who were trying to advertise the daily market specials, or it may have been a Department of Defense contractor who was hired to find a way to label the dangerous from the not-so-dangerous. It is really hard to tell which, if either of these explanations, is correct. So let’s consider the third option. Apparently, European advertising gurus came up with the idea to help consumers identify products by their colorful paper labels somewhere in the early 1880s. The colorful paper labels were affixed with a gum paste. The main products that utilized this concept (at least at first) was fruit. There was a huge amount of competition among orchards so the stickers (also known as lithography) were used by the owners to bring attention to their fruit. The labels would be stuck to the side of the cedar crates that were full of fruit and ready to sell. The concept was also used widely on vegetables cans and on cigar boxes.

Stickers evolved a bit to pre-apply the paste to the back of the stickers and let them dry. Then, by applying water or saliva to the sticker surface, the past would activate and the sticker could be placed on a surface. These types of stickers were very popular as travel and luggage stickers and are considered to be collectors items today.

From the pre-pasted, the concept of stickers evolved when R. Stanton Avery manufactured the first self-adhesive labels. The label/sticker that Avery designed had a paper surface with a coat of adhesive which was then stuck on a liner. The liner had a special silicone coating that enabled the label to be removed and stuck to other surfaces. Stickers today still use the basic premise of the self-adhesive label that Avery invented. For over 50 years stickers have became a huge marketing item for every sort of household product imaginable. In addition, bumper stickers have also become part of the popular culture fads and icons as they have been used for political and social commentary.city streets have been home to the modern graffiti movement, and now there is a fresh creative twist. Walls, phone booths, curbs, traffic signs in cities around the world public surfaces are adorned with hand-painted or hand-crafted posters and stickers.

well are we the first ? ?
we were at the show from about 4pm onwards (because ESP LTD) the company we or one of us works for was helping to sett up the live screenprinting demo. any way reverse a little, the whole vibe of the show was great and many reps from many t-shirt companys popped there heads in to look around, of course during the night the winner was announced. we are not going to lie we cant remember the winners name or any of the 15 runner up's, because of the export 33 beer part of the night .... but the posters in place instead of t-shirts for he runners up ! ! (nice touch) this made the the images stand out and of course thanks to the setting of webbs it all seemed to just fit .... but. We will when we can,find out the winner and pass it on to you all, any way back to the night ?. People enjoyed the sounds of submarinor and printor:(also available here (have a look around for his offering) and we are working to get his next mix on here asap so keep looking or checking in)....... We finally saw the screenprinting demo take off and many of the crowd took advantage to see how it all works, and ask heaps of questions and also hopefully get what is involved in making your t-shirts you wear ! !................
so to sum up: we had a great time and so look forward to next year:

SO THIS JUST IN : AS Colour is very pleased to finally announce the winner of the Little Help project. Luke Hedley from Auckland took out the $10K start up package with his label t-shirtopedia. Here is a Luke's description of the t-shirtopedia concept straight from his original entry form.“I’m a self confessed geek/nerd and I love geek chic nerdy doofus comic, pop culture and touristy type t-shirts, plus I love the internet and finding out interesting information. I’ve compressed all these influences into a t-shirt label called t-shirtopedia.

It’s pretty self explanatory, but my idea is to make t-shirts that have simple encyclopedic dictionary inspired pictures of quirky subject matter, with some brief encyclopedic facts to boot. I think my designs would be great for adults and children alike. If I win I intend to do small runs of various subjects I like and if any seem more popular than others, bulk up the numbers on that specific design. Overall I think t-shirtopedia lends itself to small and varied runs over a few mass ones.”

All of the Above is the collective workspace of four people working in related fields of fashion, screen printing, retail and design.

The space is designed to be one big showcase of the production process. Instead of pretending that the products are whipped up overnight we’ve pulled the curtain back and made every aspect of the process part of our space. We work both independently and with each other, with the aim of consistently doing things that are alligned with our own lifestyles.

Clients are welcome to discover our space and brands at their own pace. We feel an allegiance to the brands we stock; they are all creating products to satisfy their lifestyles, with an eye on quality of both design and production. The goal is to provide high calibre items that fit with our clients life, are easily integrated and become favourites.

Well its been a while but we are sure you checked out above .... So on with the show, We have an amazing excuse ........ We are moving !!!, We decided to find a place with space so away we go to our new home. It has a workshop and room for an office so we will now have space to CREATE !
So whats new ?
Recently our friends hoped over the ditch to visit, they threw down the gauntlet and asked "what can you do in Auckland for free, zip, nada ?" (elliot: all of the above)
so away we went and the next day over my late breakfast of scrambled eggs bacon and toast @ verona plus heps of coffee, the day eventually began.....
so instead of a blow by blow written account we will supply you with a photo essay (some might say this was the easy way out, but we think the photos say so much more ??)
p.s: Dogbrothers will be available @ all of the above after april .... Auckland, Melbourne the world ha ha ha aaaaah, keep an eye on this and there space.

Tape Sculpture:

So we are back into it for a month (until we have to all black out again ha haaaaa)
well looking around on the net we found this, Tape Sculpture and the best bit about Mark Jenkins is he likes to share his art. And how to do it, soooo we thought we could share it on with you ? ?
Mark Jenkins is an American artist most known for his street art installations he creates using packing tape. His work has been featured in various newspapers and magazines including Time Out: New York, The Washington Post, etc etc.
Mark Jenkins: "There is opposition, and risk, but I think that just shows that street art is the sort of frontier where the leading edge really does have to chew through the ice. And it's good for people to remember public space is a battleground, with the government, advertisers and artists all mixing and mashing, and even now the strange cross-pollination taking place as street artists sometimes become brands, and brands camouflaging as street art creating complex hybrids or impersonators. I think it's understanding the strangeness of the playing field where you'll realize that painting street artists, writers, as the bad guys is a shallow view. As for the old bronzes, I really don't see them as part of what's going on in the dialogue unless addressed by a new intervention“............

Section 92A has been Delayed!

Update.. In a press conference today John Key announced that Section 92A would be delayed until March 27th. There is a lot of work ahead but I hope everyone involved takes some time out to celebrate this victory. This shows how modern online movements and efforts can result in real world change. We couldn't have done it without you -- we've been amazed and humbled by your support. Thanks everyone!

Creative Freedom (internet blackout):

Hey all ! !
we have just become aware about some major proposed changes in NZ law that will have a huge impact on artists, businesses, and general members of the public: basically anyone that uses the internet, and we thought you should know about them.
The Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act assumes Guilt Upon Accusation and forces the termination of internet connections and websites without evidence, without a fair trial, and without punishment for any false accusations of copyright infringement. We should speak out against injustices like Guilt Upon Accusation being done in the name of artists and protecting creativity.
The countdown is on: we have until 28 February 2009 to influence government.
An organisation called the Creative Freedom Foundation has been set up to specifically represent artists voices on these issues. sign up and help our MPs make an informed decision about S92!

so it hasn't been long and that's the whole point of this site but enough about us ! ! .
Onto Kennedy Poynter or POYNTER DESIGN is a self taught graphic & footwear designer based in Auckland NZ. Kennedy has been designing apparel, logos, footwear and T-shirt graphics for many infamous labels here in Aotearoa and some in the good ole USA. "I have been doing this for way too long, but it's in my blood" Kennedy.

So we went along today to say hi to Kennedy Pointer and show support, What can we say ?. Ken is really bringing top quality into New Zealand with stuff like Gorrin Brothers, TokiDoki and To Die For and if he had any spare time left, He is also running his own label ESHE. We will be doing more on Ken when we can i.e very soon, So keep an eye out for his work ......(or wait till we do the usual links and stuff here)

Welcome our friend: Dj Printor

Printor, a.k.a. Ben Tippett, has been collecting music since he was about 9. His Monday Drive show, Printor's Choice, came about after he stopped in to see Manuel Bundy (former Programme Driector at Base) one day.

The 4 - 6pm show plays reggae, dub, dancehall, rock, soul, funk, hip hop....all the good stuff.

Between running his own screenprinting and design company, Printor manages to find time to dig around in trademe/Real Groovy/Conch/Op Shops/Markets for tunes. He also enjoys gardening but maintains that he does not enjoy walks on the beach.

Should Shepard Fairey Be Sued ?

By now you should have heard about the fiasco surrounding Shepard Fairey’s Obama HOPE poster. It’s been all over the national media and every designer should pay close attention to it. It raises a lot of questions about what is considered fair use in the art world. Shepard’s well known for skirting around copyright infringement (although I don’t know all the nitty gritty details), but has he gone too far? He admitted to finding the image of Barack Obama on Google Images, something I know a lot of designers do for reference on a particular project.
